A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Starting a mural is not unlike any other piece of artwork. It’s just the blank canvas to start on is usually pretty big.

In the initial meeting with the contractors and the White Lake Fire Authority, the ideas discussed where of courage, honor, duty and valor. A salute to the area’s previous firefighters, yet focused on the current function and focus of the new station being built and it’s place within the community. Fire Chief Pete McCarthy supplied an iconic image (see below) of his men fighting the fire at the historic Michillinda Beach Lodge. This photo showed up in various media outlets across the world.

So with over 70+ feet of blank brick wall to fill, I’m about to retreat to my studio and get a working sketch done.
